Mulled wine recipe at home. How to make mulled wine at home. How to make non-alcoholic mulled wine at home

Mulled wine is an alcoholic strong drink characterized by high temperature, delicate aroma and exquisite taste.

Its roots and origins of mulled wine go far into the past; there are still references to the fact that in Ancient Rome this drink was prepared with the addition of various spices, but without the heating process, which improves the taste and properties.

The best option for preparing mulled wine is to choose dry or semi-dry unfortified wine, as well as spices and herbs.

It is the bouquet of these components, as well as the heating of this drink, that improves the beneficial properties of wine and provides the human body with a variety of vitamins, microelements and amino acids.

As a result, mulled wine gives vitality to the human body, boosts its immunity, warms it in bad weather and saturates it with this aromatic and tasty drink.

General principles and features of preparing mulled wine at home

Unfortunately for mulled wine, the recipe, previously prepared at home and taken from primary sources, was lost, but the general principles of preparing this source have survived to this day.

It is advisable to boil the spices in water, thereby saturating it, and then strain through a strainer.

Mulled wine cannot be boiled, since the drink, namely its base, wine, loses its beneficial qualities and properties when boiling.

It is necessary to heat the components of mulled wine over low heat, with constant stirring.

The basis for preparing mulled wine is weak dry red wine, to which you can add cognac or rum if desired.

As soon as the mulled wine reaches a certain temperature (no more than 80 degrees), the drink must be removed from the heat and allowed to brew.

Mulled wine can be saturated with sugar or honey, as well as various fruits that improve the taste of this drink.

In order to fully experience the unsurpassed aroma and taste of mulled wine, it is recommended to drink it only when brewed and hot.

Questions and answers about mulled wine

  1. Which wine is best for mulled wine?

    This, as they say, is a matter of taste. However, according to many experts in the field, the combination of citrus fruits with warmed white wine is something unique.

  2. Why can't you boil mulled wine?

    Yes, because the boiled substance will completely lose all alcohol and, accordingly, will lose a significant part of its flavor bouquet.

  3. Is it possible to reheat mulled wine?

    The answer to this question is ambiguous. In principle, a cooled drink can be reheated on the stove or even in the microwave, but you should keep in mind that it will, again, lose some of the alcohol, gaining in return a richer spicy taste.

  4. Mulled wine in a slow cooker

    Adherents of ultra-modern technologies strongly recommend using a kitchen multicooker to prepare the drink we are interested in. According to them, the tightness of this device ensures a higher saturation of the drink with volatile aromas released by many spices and fruits. For the same reason, mulled wine will retain its maximum temperature during the final infusion. As for the temperature itself, it, like the cooking duration (usually 15 minutes), can be programmed in advance.

    Fans of multicookers consider the only inconvenience to be the need to select the appropriate cooking mode for different models of the mentioned devices. At the same time, they recommend experimenting with programs such as “stewing,” “frying,” “multi-cook,” and “steamer.”

    On our own behalf, we would like to add that this kitchen appliance can only be used if all the necessary ingredients are initially loaded. If the drink recipe requires their gradual addition, then the multicooker will be completely useless.

  5. Mulled wine on the fire

    In principle, you can brew mulled wine outdoors using a fire. To do this, at a minimum, you need to have wine, a pot, a stable tripod and something suitable for stirring the contents of a camp vessel. If you are an experienced hiker, then you may have sugar and perhaps even allspice in stock. In addition, it doesn’t hurt to wander around the neighborhood in search of some small plot of land and beg its owners for a couple of apples, pears or plums.

    Well, or you can do without romance. Namely, plan everything ahead of time and take with you not only wine, lemon, honey and spices, but also a special hiking thermometer. For especially down-to-earth individuals, there are always ready-made wine mixtures waiting for them on store shelves and requiring only simple heating.

    At the same time, no matter what option you choose, the main thing is not to forget to stir the contents of the pot and have time to remove it from the tripod in time.

In the old days, aromatic mulled wine was associated with American or Scandinavian Christmas. Over time, he began to conquer our country and soon became popular. Having a good recipe at your disposal, you can cook it at home.

  • Spices are an essential component. Allspice, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves are usually used. Some cooks add fruits, natural juices, and honey.
  • Good wine required. Dry is ideal. Sweet varieties spoil the taste, so they are not used.
  • The ingredients require preliminary preparation. The fruits are doused with water, and the citrus fruits are rubbed with a brush to remove the waxy coating. It is not recommended to chop finely, otherwise there will be problems with filtering. Small fruits are usually placed whole, large ones are chopped into medium cubes, and citrus fruits are divided into slices or cut into circles.
  • Whole spices are used. It is problematic to strain with ground ones; they have a bad effect on transparency and stick to the teeth like sand. Take sticks, buds and peas. Spices should enhance the taste of the wine, not overwhelm it.
  • Metal utensils are not suitable for cooking mulled wine. Use ceramic, glass, enamel or silver containers. True, not everyone has silverware and rarely uses it, because you don’t want to clean the silver again.
  • Regardless of the recipe, you should not bring the wine to a boil, otherwise the alcohol will quickly evaporate. The result is a spoiled taste of mulled wine. Ideally, heat the wine to 80 degrees. A signal about the need to remove from the fire is white foam on the surface.
  • Sugar or honey is often used. To ensure that the ingredients are completely dissolved, stir occasionally. Before tasting, strain and then pour into glass glasses. Drink exclusively hot.
  • There should be no more than two cups of mulled wine per person. This amount is enough to warm up, invigorate and recharge with energy, but not enough to

Alcoholic mulled wine is traditionally considered a winter drink - what could be more pleasant than walking into a cozy restaurant from a frosty street, warming up with a glass or two of a warming drink and feeling waves of heat literally spreading through your body?

For some reason, many people don’t even try to make mulled wine at home, but in vain - to prepare it you only need standard set of spices, which are in almost every home, a little and just a little patience.

Making this drink yourself will allow you not only to save a lot of money, but also to choose spices to suit your taste, making you feel like a real creator.

In this article we will present several interesting recipes for making mulled wine at home and will try to convince everyone that there is absolutely nothing complicated in this exciting activity.

Classic recipe

Classic mulled wine contains the following ingredients:

  • 750 ml red wine;
  • 100 ml water;
  • 1 tablespoon sugar;
  • a pinch of grated nutmeg;
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger;
  • 5 buds of cloves;
  • 1 stick of cinnamon (can be replaced with half a teaspoon of ground).

The list of ingredients shows the volumes and masses required for preparation. 4-5 drinks. If you need a larger quantity, just follow the proportions.

The preparation of mulled wine itself is an extremely simple process. First, pour water into the pan and add all the spices, then bring to a boil, remove from heat and let the spice broth brew for 10-15 minutes.

Strain through a sieve, pour wine, spice broth and sugar into the pan, heat to 65-70 degrees (it is important not to overheat, because in this case all the ethyl alcohol will evaporate and you will get a non-alcoholic drink). To avoid overheating, heat the pan over very low heat.

Recipe with orange and cinnamon

The drink can be made not only with orange and cinnamon - to add a citrus flavor, you can also use lemon and grapefruit. For informational purposes, we present a recipe for citrus mulled wine, which has a balanced taste with a pronounced emphasis on citrus notes.

Ingredients:

  • 0.75 liters of dry red wine;
  • 50 grams of sugar;
  • medium-sized orange (300-400 grams);
  • half a small lemon;
  • 3-4 buds of cloves;
  • 1 cinnamon stick (same as the previous recipe, you can use ground cinnamon instead).

Below we will tell you how to prepare mulled wine from red wine with citruses:
  1. Be sure to wash the fruit thoroughly before beginning the cooking process. Then wipe them dry with a napkin and cut off half a lemon.
  2. Pour the wine into a saucepan.
  3. Place all the ingredients in a saucepan and place it over low heat.
